The cool wood opened up to a massive view of the surrounding low hills. A living green wet wonderful smell overcame my senses. I sniffed and sniffed and filled my lungs with the welcoming scent. Small firn were unfurling themselves at my feet. Plants were moving from green to red. Rocks were tumbling over each other toward the center of everything.
I looked up, admiring the view of Mount Saint Helena. Then another mountain peaked out from behind trees: Rainier.
My heart started skipping, racing up the trail before me, pulling me on and on.
“Come on!” My heart called, “we are coming home!!”
Today marked my return to Washington State, the place that has captivated me for years, the place that makes my very being quake with joy. And finally, after all these months and miles, I am home!
